French with Sophie
I was born and raised in France. As a child I was fascinated by spelling (I even made it to the finale of a national French spelling competition aged 16, and if you know a little bit of French, you know spelling is not easy!), I loved writing stories and when I started to learn German and Latin as my first foreign languages at school, I knew I had found a lifelong passion. I later learned a few other languages (modern Greek in particular).
At university, I did a MA in French literature and particularly enjoyed etymology, grammar and translation. I hold a ‘Agrégation de lettres modernes’ (highest level teacher graduation of French for secondary schools) and qualifications in French as a foreign language.

Since 2008 I’ve been teaching French and Latin in secondary schools in France and French as a foreign language in primary and secondary schools in Germany, Athens and London. I've been a member of the examination commission for DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes de Langue Française, French language degree) in Rostock, Germany. As a private tutor I share my knowledge and passion with children who want to begin French, get help with school or exams or just have fun learning a new useful and enjoyable skill. As a native French in England, I also have experience in helping bilingual children improve their spoken and written French, and this is a part of my job that I particularly love.

I know from experience how challenging it can be to learn a new language (still taking Greek lessons myself) but also how rewarding and enjoyable, and this insight helps me greatly in teaching others. My aim is to help your child find the same motivation and make huge progress in French, while enjoying the journey!
